Geocache Hunting!

Our family has found a new activity we all LOVE!  Geocache hunting!  If you haven't tried it you should!  The kids absolutely love it.  For those who don't know what it is, I'll explain.  Someone takes a container and puts some 'stuff' in it, including a paper for people to sign when they find it, and then they 'Register' the geocache online with the GPS coordinates.  Anyone can just look up what geocaches are around them and plug in the coordinates into a GPS unit, and then follow it and search for the geocache.  Once you find it you can take an item out as long as you put a new item in and then you sign the paper saying you were there and log your visit online when you get home. There are all different sizes of containers and levels of difficulty.  Here's a picture of a geocache as an example.

We use our car GPS unit.  It doesn't work the best, but it gets us close enough.  It's such a fun activity for the whole family!  Here's the website to find a cache near you:

(You do have to register, but it's free and I never get emails from them.)

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Today we've been having fun with food!  We had green pancakes this morning AND THE KIDS ATE IT!  Most of you don't know how weird my kids are with food so this might not seem extraordinary, but to me it was!  It used to be that if food coloring touched any type of food, that made it yucky so they wouldn't eat it.  Green milk, green eggs, or anything like that was disgusting.  NOT ANYMORE!!!  Hooray!!!

Anyways, Here's a pic of my pancakes (because pictures make everything more fun).  I attempted to do a 4 leaf clover pancake and believe me, that was hard!  It turned out more like a square, so I quickly gave up and did boring round ones.

Later, after all our work was done, we made Rainbow Cupcakes.  This is starting to be a tradition for St. Patrick's Day and we all love it.  I just separate out the cake batter into 6 different bowls and use food coloring to make a rainbow of colors, then I layer the colors into the liners.

This year, I wanted super white frosting (to look like fluffy clouds), so I made my own.  It was easy and tastes delish!  (Sorry for the blurry pics.  I REALLY need a new camera!!!)

Taking a bite is my favorite part because it looks so cool!  And it tastes yummy :)  We always add a little bit of mint flavor (to the cake batter and the frosting).  Mmmmmmm!

Coolest Job EVER!

After dinner tonight we went to visit Johnathan at the station to bring him and the crew some brownies.  Can I just say I LOVE HIS JOB!! All the hard work it took to get to this point was worth it!  I love that we can stop in and go for a ride in the firetruck!  The kids love it every time.  This time Jacob was VERY vocal about how much he "LOVES THE FIRE STATION".  He was super sad when it was time to leave.

I especially love his work hours!  He works for 48 hours and then is off for 4 days!  I am finally getting (mentally) used to him being gone for 2 days.  It can be hard going for 2 straight days with only little people to talk to, but the 4 days home sure makes it worth it.  I love to see him at work.  He ALWAYS has a big grin and is in such a good mood (actually, he is just always in a good mood) when he's at work.  I know he loves what he does and that is a good thing too!

I wish I would have thought to bring my camera, but I didn't, so no pics of the kids going for a ride in the big red truck!
