My sister Jamie came over a few days ago and we had a fondue party. It's been a while since I've made fondue and I forgot how much fun and how yummy it is! Here's the recipe I use. It is given with instructions for a fondue pot. If you don't have one you can still try it in a regular pot.
Cheese Fondue
2 Cups apple juice
3 cloves garlic pressed
4 shakes of mustard powder
4-4 1/2 cups cheese (I used colby jack, you can mix it up & use whatever you like/have)
5 TBL cornstarch
3 shakes worcestershire sauce
Combine shredded cheese & cornstarch. Bring juice to boil over setting 5 & add garlic. Add 3 shakes of mustard powder & lower temperature to setting 3 1/2. Add cheese/cornstarch mixture & stir. Add worcestershire sauce and mix until all cheese is melted & smooth. Serve on setting 2 1/2 - 3!
We like to dip broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, bread (last time we used an italian seasoned one that was DELICIOUS) and green apples.
Chocolate Fondue
2 cups chocolate chips
1/3 cup half & half
Place chocolate chips in fondue pot & add half & half. Heat over setting 4 & stir constantly until melted & smooth. When melted turn down to setting 2 & serve!
We served the chocolate fondue with strawberries, bananas, pretzel sticks, marshmallows, cinnamon bears, cheesecake & fresh pineapple (that's been patted dry).
Do you have any more suggestions of good things to dip?
I have use mozzarella cheese and made a pizza sauce dip. We have dipped french bread, olives, pepperoni, mushrooms.
ReplyDeleteI have also used monetary jack cheese and dipped the things listed above except we traded out the pepperoni for the lil smokies hot dogs, and added broccoli.
We have use the expensive cheeses a couple of times. They were good but my favorite is the monetary jack.
Do you cook your veggies first?
Nope, we don't cook the veggies. So, when you did your pizza dipping stuff, do you dip it in the cheese sauce and then in the pizza sauce? I've never heard of that before, but it sounds fun!
ReplyDeleteWe put the pizza sauce on our plate. There would be too much mixing of things for my liking otherwise.
